Accordion is the go-to partner to the private equity community – driving value creation through financial consulting services and portfolio operations technology.
As the only firm focused exclusively within the Office of the CFO, our consultants work alongside Sponsor management teams to support initiatives across the entire finance function. While our engagements span all industries and sizes, our focus is consistent: flawless execution. We’ve channeled years of execution and insight into portfolio operations best practices to develop Maestro – the first technology platform designed to institutionalize a private equity firm’s approach to value creation.
To put it simply, we’re more than a consulting firm; we’re shaping a new era in private equity.
How we got here.
Like the musical instrument, Accordion’s business plan centered around the ability to expand and contract. We recognized the need for a flexible financial consulting model (both for clients and talent) – and in November 2009, we opened our doors. Well…technically they weren’t “our” doors, but we were lucky to have some generous friends who shared their office space.
Houston, we have a client.
…and not just any client. The U.S. Navy hired Accordion in April 2010 – entrusting us to develop investment models that would enable predictions as to which research grants would yield the most value. As they say in the Navy, anchors aweigh!
The big move.
By March 2011, we outgrew the corner office we had been borrowing from one of our investors. Enough clients had taken a chance on us that we were ready to take a major chance on ourselves. So we packed our bags and headed south – opening an office of our own at 270 Lafayette (in SoHo).
Our first sponsor.
In the early years of Accordion, we were still figuring out what we wanted to be when we grew up. We hadn’t yet narrowed our focus to service private equity-backed companies – but the fall of 2011 marked a turning point. Providence Equity became our very first sponsor client.

…their words, not ours. In October 2012, Fortune published an article about Accordion – deeming Nick “Wall Street’s New ‘It’ Guy.” (The headline made us blush, but who are we to disagree with Fortune?)
Accordion Wins ACG Consulting Firm of the Year.
2013 & 2014 were real maturation years for Accordion. We found our niche by focusing on private equity backed clients. And in doing so, we began building a great reputation and client base. (Don’t worry, we didn’t let the success–or awards–get to our heads!)
Our 100th engagement.
By August 2015 we landed our 100th client engagement. Of course it’s about quality over quantity, but we’re proud of the many lasting client relationships we’ve created.
Movin’ on up.
As much as we loved our office in SoHo, our team was ready to rock it in Rock Center. (And we wanted to be closer to our clients in Midtown.) So we moved to West 52nd Street – the office we’re proud to call our NY home today.
“Now let me welcome everybody to the wild, wild West.” In June of 2017, 2Pac officially welcomed Accordion to the West Coast. (In our imaginations at least.) With the opening of our San Francisco office, led by Rishi Jain, we began providing West Coast funds and their portfolio companies local support.
Whoops, did we say dalmatians? We meant Accordionites. And we know, we’re not as cute as cartoon dalmatians, but in November 2017 we hired our 101st colleague – which was surely something to wag our tails about! (Note: not all 101 of us are pictured here.)
New year, new product. At the start of 2018, Accordion launched Maestro: the first technology platform designed to institutionalize a private equity firm’s approach to value creation within their portfolio companies. Uniting best-in-class playbooks with a task management solution and data benchmarking, Maestro fosters stronger communication (and better alignment) among Sponsors and Management teams.
