Spotlight on Accordion’s London team

We’ve just opened our London office, bringing all of our global capabilities and resources to the UK. As the only financial consulting firm focused on driving value through the office of the PE-backed CFO in Europe, we’re well-positioned to win in this market… and we have a tenacious team on the ground that’s making it happen.

Now is the perfect time to join them. Accordion’s President Atul Aggarwal sums it up: “Consider this: When we’re a 200+ person team in Europe and new joiners are asking about how it all started, how inspired would you be to say you were part of the pioneering team from the start?”

We spoke to current members of the pioneering team—Amy Newlan, Nikhil Kuplish, and Matt Wisniewski—about what it’s like working in the London office right now. Here’s what they said:

Why is right now the perfect time to join Accordion in London?

Joining us gives you a real opportunity to make an impact. We’re in our first year in a new market, and you could be one of the few people that helps take us to a few hundred people. You don’t often get the chance to be part of a company at such a pivotal point in its growth story.

It’s the ideal situation. We have an established firm and resource playbook in the United States, but we haven’t even started scratching the surface in Europe. It’s very early innings for Accordion and such an exciting opportunity to grow the firm’s presence in the UK and in Europe.

What is the London office culture like?

There’s just great energy here: entrepreneurial, high energy, engaged, everyone always sharing new ideas and collaborating. The team’s excited about elevating the impact of the firm across the UK and Europe, and that excitement and energy reverberates. You feel it in everything we do.

I’ll just say this: I haven’t been to the London office in a couple of weeks because I’ve been on client site, and I’m missing it. I could take a couple of days to take a breath and work from home, but I want to be in to see my colleagues who, already, feel like friends.

What would you say to someone thinking about joining Accordion in London?

If you’re ready to own your career backed by supportive teammates, Accordion is the place for you. London demands an entrepreneurial, hustling mindset, where you’re ready to embrace being the underdog and push forward regardless.

A lot of firms say they have a people-first culture, but Accordion walks the walk. You feel it every day. This firm knows that when you take care of your people, they’re going to want to work hard to provide top-tier client service. It’s how we win, and it’s special to be part of.

What’s different about working at Accordion vs. other firms?

We strive for A+ execution and consistently push ourselves to find better ways of doing things. And we also value the human side of work. As a small team, we enjoy each other as both colleagues and as friends after hours, whether it be getting a pint after a long day, going to football matches together, playing cricket, etc. It’s a unique work experience.

There are no egos here. The level of support that you get from colleagues across different levels of seniority and across business functions is unique. For example, my Managing Director was recently in a deliverable balancing a cash flow model, whilst I worked on other parts of the model, to meet a tight deadline—which you really don’t see anywhere else. And everyone’s opinion is respected; it’s obvious that the senior people really value the opinions of the more junior-level employees, which empowers everyone to put forward their best ideas and collaborate as a team.

What do you think we can offer PE-backed companies in Europe that they haven’t had before?

In Europe, no one is as hyper-focused on the office of the CFO as we are. Other consulting firms might have some of what we do on a much smaller scale, but no one has our deep, nuanced private equity and finance function expertise. We bring an operator mentality to our engagements, which lets us understand and empathise with our clients’ challenges in a really genuine way. We can say, ‘We’ve been here, and we know how to help.’

What’s the #1 thing that convinced you to join Accordion?

For me, it was the opportunity to deliver a differentiated service offering backed by high-performing colleagues who play to win. I feel myself learning and growing because of this exciting opportunity to build the London office from the ground-up, help shape the culture, and write the playbook for how we do things here.

For me, it was about the people. I’ve worked across financial services for 15 years, and the energy here felt different. Through the interview process, it was clear that everyone is excited to be here and is passionate about this opportunity to establish Accordion in the European market. It was hard not to want to be part of the team.
