Joan Fonseca

Joan is a Senior Director with over 15 years of experience in accounting, internal audit, risk management, financial planning & analysis, and corporate performance management. Throughout her career, she has worked in consultant roles as well as controller and financial management roles in the consumer and retail, media, and banking industries.

With Accordion, Joan has supported clients in implementing top-notch finance and accounting functions, enhancing and accelerating accounting processes, and refining procedures to attain operational and reporting efficiencies. Joan has also collaborated with senior leadership to offer her specialized knowledge in controllership, audit preparedness, and financial statement creation, in order to assist a diverse range of clients.

Before joining Accordion, Joan was an Economic Development Manager at Horne LLP, where she led the implementation efforts of two economic development programs aiming to build agricultural capacity and large-scale commercial developments. She was responsible for expenditure controlling, subrecipient and stakeholder audits, underwriting reviews for grantees, and maintaining accurate and timely financial reporting – all while ensuring acceptable levels on internal controls and compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

Prior to this, Joan was the Financial Controller at LVMH Fragrance Brands – supervising all accounting operations for Givenchy and Kenzo by preparing financial statements in accordance to US GAAP, analyzing variances, and ensuring timely closing at month, quarter, and year-end. There, she implemented and reviewed standard operating procedures on accounting processes with a keen focus on month-end closing documentation and P&L management for over 15 countries throughout Latin America, including Mexico, Peru, Panama, Chile, and French Antilles. She was also responsible for annual forecasts and budgets for all distributors and the local Miami office, mainly by defining the final objectives for the distributors and subsidiaries, analyzing financial statements, and interacting with the local Controllers and Regional Directors. In addition to this, she planned and executed international audits on distributors and subsidiaries to assess and challenge the profitability of investments and advised on / accounted for, all financial decisions made within the region including capital investments, contract negotiations, and pricing.

As the Internal Audit Consultant for 21st Century Fox, Joan collaborated with the company’s management team on reporting and analyzing actual and budgeted results on domestic and international broadcasting, film, and cable channels. There, she was responsible for audit planning, risk assessment and risk prioritization, audit execution, and reporting to executive management – all while reducing the time spent on generating audit reports by 20% which increased audits to 6-7 audits a year (from three per year).

Joan’s other experience includes serving as the Financial Controller for Lorna Jane USA, Management Consultant at 8020 Consulting, Finance Manager at 180LA, Audit Assurance Associate at PwC, and a Management Consulting Senior Analyst at the Government Development Bank For Puerto Rico.

Joan graduated with a B.B.A. Accounting and Finance from University of Puerto Rico – Rio Piedras and a M.B.A. from Instituto de Empresa Business School in Madrid, Spain.
