Steven Stophel

Steven Stophel

Steve is a Senior Director with three decades of experience in multiple industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, technology, and energy. His specialties include global accounting, post-merger acquisition accounting and financial integration, business and financial process improvement, SEC financial reporting and compliance, public listing readiness, and complex accounting (US GAAP & IFRS) matters.

He has been in senior financial management (including C-level) and consulting roles with US domestic and international companies (ranging from $50 million to $4 billion in revenue). He has assisted PE-backed portfolio companies (private & public) on US GAAP & IFRS accounting issues, acquisition accounting, integration & reporting, performance and process improvement, buy/sell side due diligence, and public listing readiness.

Steve has provided senior financial accounting leadership as an interim CAO / Controller around significant accounting and reporting issues resulting from inadequate or failed implementation of an ERP (SAP, Dynamics, etc.), failed Shared Service Center implementation, or poorly integrated recent acquisitions and/or divestures.

On a recent interim engagement, he reduced the time to close from 14+ days to 4 days. This significant record to report (close) improvement provided needed time for operational management decisions. He also managed the reduction of DSO by 18 days, releasing $92 million of cash flow trapped in AR. Lastly, he provided management support and remediation of working capital issues associated with vendor payments, inventory overbuild, outside fraud in AR/AP, and lack of adequate procurement processes.

Before joining Accordion, Steve held senior positions at the following international consulting and public accounting firms: Paradigm Advisory, Alvarez & Marsal, KPMG LLP, and Arthur Andersen. He held positions as the CAO and regional CFO in both private and public companies (US domestic and International). During his career, he worked internationally for over 13 years in the former Soviet Union and Europe.

Steve is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Colorado, Certified Internal Auditor, and a Lean Six Sigma green belt. He is a member of the AICPA, Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants, and Institute of Internal Auditors.

Steve graduated with a B.S. in Professional Accounting from Regis College.
