Max is a Director in Accordion’s West Coast Turnaround and Restructuring, bringing over a decade of extensive experience in strategic financial and operational advisory. He has a wealth of experience including providing turnaround and restructuring services, buy-side financial due diligence, sell-side investment banking services, financial / cash flow modeling, and valuation analyses, primarily serving companies in the automotive, consumer goods, energy, and technology spaces.
Recently, Max served as FP&A lead for a distressed winery in California, where he managed the finance function and oversaw the development and implementation of a business turnaround plan, operational improvements, AR/AP process improvement, budgeting/forecasting, and ad hoc strategic analyses for the CEO.
Prior to this role, Max assisted the management of a troubled electricity cooperative, building a 13-week cash flow model and long-term operating model to assess their liquidity runway. He quantified the company’s potential financial exposure and supported management in analyzing their strategic alternatives and creditor negotiations.
Max also worked with a middle market PE client to perform buy-side financial due diligence for over 15 roll-up acquisitions in the financial services space, totaling more than $60M in LTM EBITDA. He managed a team of analysts and was responsible for interviewing management teams, cleansing and preparing large datasets, and providing quality of earnings reports.
He was a member of the team that acted as financial advisor to Takata Corporation during its chapter 11 proceedings and subsequent $1.6B sale. He helped create and ultimately owned the financial forecast and deal models that guided the transaction. He also assisted in developing a 13-week cash flow model and monitored actual performance against budget.
Max began his career in the Deals practice at PwC in Tokyo, Japan, assisting clients with M&A opportunities, divestitures, and strategic initiatives. He built a variety of complex financial models for corporate strategy and FP&A teams, supporting long-range business forecast, project finance, M&A, and capital allocation analyses.
Max holds a M.Sc. in Finance from IE Business School in Madrid, Spain and a B.A. in International Business and Economics from Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan. Max is a member of The Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors and the Turnaround Management Association and is a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor (CIRA).
