Barry is a Director with more than 2 decades of broad financial experience at large, medium, and small tech companies, both public and private. Barry is an expert in FP&A (including metrics and reporting) having run these teams at 3 companies. His other key areas of expertise are general plus some specialized accounting, international setup and expansion, compensation and bonus plans, financial systems and processes, capital raises and IPO, and financial business partnering.
Prior to Accordion, Barry ran the entire finance function at Talkdesk, a venture-backed SaaS company. Barry rebuilt the entire FP&A and accounting teams, created a deal desk and procurement function, implemented Adaptive planning, partnered with the CEO on a $143M Series C, executed a first-time audit (Big 4), and implemented financial business partnering along with policies and compliance. Prior to Talkdesk, Barry ran FP&A at Anaplan, where he transformed the FP&A team into a fully integrated business partnering and financial modeling & planning team. This included implementing a brand new series of world class FP&A models (using Anaplan). As a member of the core team, Barry worked on Anaplan’s IPO from start to finish, as well as post-IPO – owning all of the financial models, metrics, financial story, and the beat and raise models.
Prior to Anaplan, Barry held several roles across a few companies. Key areas he gained expertise in include sales quotas and commissions, IT infrastructure (public and private cloud), transfer pricing, inventory management and costing, revenue recognition, negotiations and contracts, and product pricing.
Barry started his career as an electrical engineer at Denso; a highlight during his time there was being indoctrinated into Kaizen for 4 years within a company that perfected it. After Denso, Barry took 2 years off teaching English in Japan so he could learn to speak Japanese.
Barry earned his M.B.A. from the Tepper School at Carnegie Mellon University, majoring in Finance, Marketing, and International Business, as well as a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University.
